Apple’s latest desktop operating system update “Catalina” marks the official end of iTunes after being the primary music management app for nearly two decades.
With the new OS update, iTunes is replaced with a new Music app and one of the biggest headaches for DJ’s is the removal of the ability to share your iTunes library with other apps like Rekordbox, Serato and Traktor.
Over the years, iTunes has been the defacto standard for organising your music library, creating playlists and so on and by sharing your XML file, it’s easy to get your iTunes library into your favourite DJ app however the lack of XML support in the latest macOS update will break that communication.
The latest news from Pioneer, Serato and Native Instruments is that you should not update your DJ laptop to the latest operating system until testing on new versions has completed.
If you are a Windows user, good news in that iTunes is not being replaced (yet) so nothing will change for you.
What if I don’t use iTunes?
The advice remains the same, until the developers of your favourite DJ app report 100% compatibility with macOS Catalina, we advise that you don’t update just yet.
